Fabrication Section Manager

Role Overview

The successful candidate will report direct to the Head of Manufacturing and be responsibility for all operations within welding/fabrication department . The main responsibilities will include:

  • Ensure that a high standard of safety and housekeeping is maintained and that all relevant environmental and health & safety regulations and procedures are adhered to
  • Interpret workshop/design drawings and job sheets, complete production schedules and allocate works making best use of in-house facilities to ensure completion dates are met
  • Ensure goods are produced to meet requirements in terms of H&S, quality, programme and cost
  • Manage reporting, team leaders/employees and monitor performance
  • Ensure personnel are adequately trained and understand targets and that they are working to consistent standards, meeting delivery dates and quality requirements
  • Effective liaison with Welding Eng, Industrial Eng and the Project Team to ensure that potential problems are resolved efficiently and the manufacture process is not impeded
  • Provide evaluation, reports and commentary of progress to the head of Manufacturing and the wider Senior Management Team as requested
  • Determine and monitor the overall resource capacity (personnel, material and equipment) for the welding/Fabrication Department and set priorities to maintain production expectations and costs
  • Develop long term & short term plans for improving quality, increasing production capacity & decreasing costs
  • Provide necessary technical assistance in tendering for jobs as and when required
  • Assist Head of manufacturing to maintain harmonious employee relations, motivate employees, implement improvement strategies and reinforce Company practices and processes

Skills, Qualifications & Experience

  • Extensive management experience of general metalwork, fabrication and welding of mild steel, stainless steel (Min of 5 years)
  • Time served Fabricator/welder with a min of HNC in an engineering discipline
  • Experience in the Nuclear/MOD sector (Preferred but not essential)
  • Experience of machinery used for general fabrication
  • Demonstrable management experience in a production environment
  • A strong approach to quality and health & safety and ensuring that standards and procedures are adhered to
  • The ability to interpret and read workshop/design drawings and direct the design of the relevant components for assembly in line with best practise manufacture
  • Sound commercial acumen and cost awareness with the ability to add value and optimise profits

Production Services Operator

Role Overview

General duties within the TSP but not limited to:

  • General housekeeping within all departments
  • 5s work
  • Crane driving (Full training will be provided)

  • Spray painting(Full training will be provided)

Role Overview

The purpose of this role is to support the Team Leader with the manufacturing unit in achieving plant operational targets, product quality, customer service and health & safety objectives.

Instrument Technician


To provide knowledge and practical skills that ensure the safe and effective delivery of electrical manufacturing and installation including electrical maintenance activities as requested by the team leader.

Safety & Health Environment

  • Ensure and deliver safe standards of workmanship that comply with all relevant health and safety legislation
  • Ensure all aspects of electrical activities are carried out in a safe manner and comply with all the relevant health and safety legislation

Project Manager


The purpose of the role is to manage projects on behalf of TSP Engineering in various industry sectors. To act as the client contact and retain overall responsibility for successful delivery of Projects to schedule, quality and budget.

Key Accountabilities 

  • Act as the principle client contact, ensuring clients requirements are correctly interpreted and reflected in deliverables and maintaining a positive working relationship throughout the project duration whilst remaining commercial in any decisions
  • Provide leadership and direction to Project Engineers, Project Planners, Manufacturing Teams and support staff in delivering Projects against schedule, quality and budget
  • To be responsible for delivering projects to time, cost and quality and in accordance with the Business Management Systems
  • To identify potential risks and opportunities and actively resolve any issues affecting project delivery to time, cost and quality
  • Ensuring project schedules and costs are regularly reviewed and that effective change control procedures are established and adhered to throughout the project duration
  • Providing confidence to all stakeholders (including senior management and client) that the Project is in a healthy state


  • APM Project Management Qualification (PMQ)
  • Engineering Degree or Equivalent Practical Mechanical Engineering experience is desirable

Skills & Experience

  • Project Management background with demonstrable experience and proven success in managing and delivering multi-discipline projects through all phases
  • A working knowledge of project management principles, tools and techniques
  • An appreciation of project management planning, estimating, risk identification, management and mitigation processes and their application across multi-disciplined teams
  • Experience in ensuring the adherence to client contracts and specifications
  • Experience in the management of Projects over £10m
  • Experience in a Mechanical Engineering role or a similar technical role

The ideal candidate will have good practical skills and attention to detail. Previous experience in a Project Management role is essential whilst being able to underpin this with a good mechanical engineering knowledge and practice. Overall, the right candidate must have a good attitude, be flexible in the shift patterns and prepared to work overtime where there is a business requirement.


Material Sourcing Lead


The purpose of this role is to source all goods/services using MRP (Materials Replenishment Process), ad-hoc requests and a Bill of Material (BOM) for small Projects, in accordance with Business Processes and Procedures, to best possible Commercial Terms.  Negotiating annual service contracts.

Key Accountabilities 

  • Source items as necessary to ensure that all relevant items/services are available to deliver on time.  Negotiating agreements and annual service contracts for the supply of goods and services requirements at optimum costs
  • Creating new vendor accounts, reviewing data, terms and conditions and credit limits
  • Support the monitoring of supplier performance to ensure that they confirm to the conditions of contract and that they remain as viable businesses capable of meeting the company’s needs
  • Liaise with Project Engineers, Stores, and Operational personnel to gain a full understanding of their needs and brief them on improved sources of supply
  • Take ownership of purchase orders, including pro-active expediting throughout ensuring items/services delivered on time
  • Review annual contracts for specified goods and services to meet the Business cost effectively
  • Identify new and alternative sources of supply to avoid over dependence on too few suppliers and maintain market competitiveness
  • Generate Monthly OTIF (On Time In Full) data and produce KPI’s
  • Administration duties as required

Project Engineer x2


The purpose of this role is to be the main technical lead on multidiscipline projects of varying depth and scope. To plan, manage and monitor a multidiscipline team of Engineers to support project delivery. To report functionally to the Project Manager on the work being undertaken whilst remaining commercially focused.

Key Accountabilities 

  • To assess project requirements from a technical perspective
  • To deliver work in accordance with the business management systems and to plan, monitor, forecast and control various aspects of a project. In particular safety, quality, technical, schedule and resource
  • To oversee the manufacture of complex components and assemblies including any testing and commissioning activities
  • To ensure the project is undertaken safely in accordance with the legislative requirements appertaining to the project and to ensure the customer’s requirements are satisfied
  • To produce reports and documentation where required and provide technical advice within the Project
  • To produce the Bill of Materials, including identifying all technical and quality requirements to allow the procurement of both goods and services
  • To liaise with manufacturers, organise and or carry our inspection and expediting activities to satisfy the project requirements
  • To set up, control and be responsible for the safe, efficient and timely erection and commissioning of plant and equipment both within workshop assembly and at customers site. This is to include incorporation of as built modifications within the final project document packages

The applicant will be responsible for carrying out various roles in the refurbishing pipe shop division including hydraulic & lubrication systems, mainly repairing damaged pipes & testing. Other duties will be stripping out spray pipes, cleaning nozzles, re-fit to spray pipes & testing to determine the correct spray pattern can be achieved. The applicant will also carry out any maintenance tasks, to assist the smooth running of the shop floor.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Level 3 NVQ in Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering /Pipefiting and Assembly or equivalent would be preferred
  • Experience of fitting carbon, stainless and brass pipework
  • Knowledge of hydraulic & lubrication systems
  • Experience in all pipefitting activities would be desirable, troubleshooting skills

CNC Machinist x3


The purpose of this role is to machine items from a combination of work instructions, reading drawing information and understanding NC Programming. This will be used to aid and support the Team Leader with achieving deadlines of manufactured part, product quality and health & safety objectives.

  • Ability to Set, Operate and check programs over a variety of CNC Horizontal and Vertical Milling machines working in heavy industry

Full time role Mon-Fri, 36.5 paid hours per week.

  • Provide support to EC&I project estimates, specifications, layouts and other tender documents in adequate detail and good order to enable project tenders and sales submissions to be made to prospective customers and project variation proposals to be made to existing customers

The purpose of this role is to support and maintain a professional estimating service on behalf of the commercial and operational teams in support of new business opportunities. Through implementing a professional estimating practice, ensuring that future work is secured on a competitive basis and is based on known risks and rewards.  The main accountabilities of the role include but are not limited to:

  • Undertaking estimates for manufacturing and site installation activities. This will include activities which are both self-performed and sub-contracted
  • Preparation of BOQ and procurement schedules as part of the estimating phase in anticipation of securing the execution phase
  • Preparation and costing Risk Registers and recognising and bounding Estimating Uncertainty for more complex submissions
  • Interfacing with the various internal approval bodies (Gate Process) to ensure that tender submission deadlines are met
  • Monitoring and delivering estimating work within the sanctioned Bid Costs
  • Providing accurate reports covering estimating KPI’s, progress information in relation to estimating
  • Establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders e.g. clients, external suppliers, commercial teams, operational teams, planning department etc
  • Implementing best practice estimating processes and procedures which are also consistent with wider TSP arrangements (including IT systems)

Qualifications and Skills

  • Time served craftsperson with NVQ Level 3 or equivalent (full City & Guilds)
  • 3 years manufacturing experience – preferably within the Nuclear, Defence or Heavy Engineering Sectors
  • Estimating experience desirable but not essential
