Quality Engineer

 

Full time role Mon-Fri, 36.5 paid hours per week.

Salary between £30k-£32k

35 holidays (inc BH) per annum

Overview

The purpose of this role is to provide a service to the Quality and Environmental Manager to provide customer confidence in the business processes and procedures and enable the retention of the BS EN ISO 9000 series accreditation by:

  • Providing technical expertise and support to all departments
  • Supporting and implementing new processes into the organisation

 

Key Accountabilities

  • Control and organise QA activities to maximise the throughput and achieve cost and delivery targets ensuring products comply with the design specification for quality to give customer satisfaction
  • To ensure the above activities comply with the company’s health, safety and environmental policies
  • To assist the manager in monitoring production to minimise defective work thus helping to maximise and achieve quality targets
  • To provide technical support for all metallurgical/material queries raised which affect product quality. This includes queries raised internally, by suppliers, plus potential and existing customers
  • To liaise with customer’s representatives regarding documentation issues, which may affect product quality
  • To maintain, review and update the documentation supporting the QA system
  • To perform internal and external auditing as required
  • To participate in 3rd party auditing as required
  • To review and approve documentation for contracts, ensuring full traceability and auditability
  • To maintain an overview of N.D.E carried out both in-house and subcontract (currently radiography, dye penetrant and magnetic particle testing)
  • To participate in the training of the NVQ apprentices on secondment in QA

 

Qualifications and Skills

  • Relevant Auditor Qualification
  • Quality Engineer Certification

 

Essential

  • An appreciation of health, safety and environmental issues in an engineering business
  • Understanding of Nuclear Industry specifications and requirements
  • Problem solving & continual improvement techniques – 5S, 8D, 5Why’s or Isikawa
  • Knowledge of quality assurance requirements and procedures

Desirable

  • Proficient Use of Microsoft Packages
  • Experience in supplying technical materials expertise required by an engineering business

Full time role Mon-Fri, 40 hours (Must be able to work shifts if required)

Intro rate salary £21,935.68 + 12% increase to this rate once competency is demonstrated up to a 12 month period

Brief Job Description

  • The purpose of this role is to support the Team Leader with the manufacturing unit in achieving plant operational targets, product quality, customer service and health & safety objectives.

 

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • Drawing Interpretation including basic weld symbol understanding.
  • Welding ability: MIG/MAG welding
  • Experience with weld procedures and welder qualifications (codings).
  • Material preparation – Grinding, burring, dressing (abrasive wheels).
  • Experienced in the fabrication of carbon steel and stainless steel.
  • Thermal cutting and chamfering (oxy-propane).
  • Plasma cutting.
  • Marking off – for fabrication assembly and machining allowance.
  • Heavy engineering experience.
  • Nuclear fabrication experience.

 

Desirable

  • Flux cored welding – desirable, TIG welding
  • Plate rolling and forming
  • Arc Air Gouging
  • Pipework fabrication and welding

 

 

Quality Manager

 

Full time role Mon-Fri, 36.5 paid hours per week

Overview

  • To lead and develop a Team of Quality Engineers, Inspectors and Support Staff in the development and provision of a ‘first class’ Quality Assurance and Control service, systems and technology.

 

Key Accountabilities

  • To lead and develop a Team of Quality Inspectors, Engineers and support staff and provide a professional and cost efficient Quality Assurance and Control Service, including the deployment of a variety of forms of NDE.
  • To develop and maintain an effective Quality Assurance system which ensures robust compliance with ISO 9001/19443 and other industry standards.
  • Manage the Quality Control Systems to ensure that customer quality requirements are achieved including effective quality control of suppliers.
  • Develop key Quality Metrics and Trends which drive a robust programme of improvements.
  • Monitor production activities across the site, and occasionally our off site works, to minimise defective work and promote a right first time approach.
  • To benchmark our approach to Quality and Quality performance against appropriate organisations.
  • To interface with 2nd & 3rd Party Auditors and Internal and External Customers in relation to quality matters.
  • To review existing processes, practices and techniques and implement industry best practice.
  • Setting up and maintaining controls and documentation procedures

Section Manager Fabrication

Full time role Mon-Fri, 36.5 paid hours per week.

35 holidays (inc BH) per annum

Job description

  • Responsible for all operations within fabricating/welding department

 

Key Accountabilities

  • Ensure a high standard of housekeeping is maintained & health and safety procedures are adhered to
  • Allocate work and make sure all delivery dates are met
  • Manage team leaders & employees and monitor performance
  • Track training and targets/objectives
  • Liase with Welding Engineers, Industrial Engineers and the Projects Team throughout the manufacturing process
  • Provide evaluation reports and progress to Head of Manufacturing and the Senior Management Team as requested
  • Set priorities for costs, personnel, material & equipment
  • Provide technical assistance in tendering for jobs as and when required
  • Assist Head of Manufacturing with employee relations, improvement strategies, company processes and procedures

 

Qualifications Required

  • Minimum of 5 years extensive management experience in metal work, fabrication and welding
  • Experience with general machinery used for fabrication
  • Management experience in a production environment
  • A strong approach to quality and health and safety
  • Read workshop/design drawings
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • Time served fabricator/welder with a minimum of HNC in Engineering

 

Maintenance Team Leader

 

Full time role, normal pattern – Mon-Fri from 7.30am until 3.30pm. 40 hours per week.

Must be flexible to work shifts, weekend overtime and call out if required.

40 days holidays (inc BH) per annum

Pension 6% ER and EE

 

Key Accountabilities

  • Establish and deliver safe standards of workmanship that comply with all relevant Health and Safety legislation.
  • Report and investigate accidents and undertake workshop audits to learn from events and proactively prevent the reoccurrence of any incidents/hazards within the team environment.
  • Ensure that resources, equipment, services and information are available for the team to effectively complete all production demands.
  • To provide leadership knowledge and practical skills that ensures the safe and effective delivery of production activities.
  • Motivate key resources to develop team capabilities that perform to high standards and produce on time quality products.
  • You must be an experienced time served craftsman and have workshop knowledge of heavy engineering processes/operations.
  • Ensure that all team members comply with the relevant HR policies and procedures, site standards and expectations and undertake disciplinary action where required.
  • Support all initiatives and projects focused on improving operational and business performance.
  • You will be self-motivated with a positive attitude and possess leadership and good communication skills.

 

Qualifications/Experience

  • Electrical Biased preferred
  • Experience in a maintenance department
  • Experience as a team leader preferred
  • Time served/minimum level 3 or equivalent qualification in electrical/mechanical
