Quantity Surveyor Apprentice

Role Overview

TSP are looking to recruit an Apprentice Quantity Surveyor to join our company. The successful candidate will become part of the project team, looking after the commercial/financial side of our projects. The applicant will be required to safeguard our commercial position, whilst developing an understanding of contractual, commercial, and legal processes relating to contracts. The role will primarily be based on our Workington site. Quantity surveyors are required to monitor and analyse the cost/time performance of the works being carried out on site, prepare Applications for Payment / Invoices, negotiate with Clients, deal with contracts and matters of contract law. Quantity surveyors are responsible for managing all aspects of the contractual and financial side of projects.

Skills, Qualifications & Experience

  • Commercially aware with excellent face to face, verbal and written communication skills
  • Computer literate and skilled in Microsoft packages (Microsoft Excel specifically)
  • Organised, numerate and analytical

Fabrication Section Manager

Role Overview

The successful candidate will report direct to the Head of Manufacturing and be responsibility for all operations within welding/fabrication department . The main responsibilities will include:

  • Ensure that a high standard of safety and housekeeping is maintained and that all relevant environmental and health & safety regulations and procedures are adhered to
  • Interpret workshop/design drawings and job sheets, complete production schedules and allocate works making best use of in-house facilities to ensure completion dates are met
  • Ensure goods are produced to meet requirements in terms of H&S, quality, programme and cost
  • Manage reporting, team leaders/employees and monitor performance
  • Ensure personnel are adequately trained and understand targets and that they are working to consistent standards, meeting delivery dates and quality requirements
  • Effective liaison with Welding Eng, Industrial Eng and the Project Team to ensure that potential problems are resolved efficiently and the manufacture process is not impeded
  • Provide evaluation, reports and commentary of progress to the head of Manufacturing and the wider Senior Management Team as requested
  • Determine and monitor the overall resource capacity (personnel, material and equipment) for the welding/Fabrication Department and set priorities to maintain production expectations and costs
  • Develop long term & short term plans for improving quality, increasing production capacity & decreasing costs
  • Provide necessary technical assistance in tendering for jobs as and when required
  • Assist Head of manufacturing to maintain harmonious employee relations, motivate employees, implement improvement strategies and reinforce Company practices and processes

Skills, Qualifications & Experience

  • Extensive management experience of general metalwork, fabrication and welding of mild steel, stainless steel (Min of 5 years)
  • Time served Fabricator/welder with a min of HNC in an engineering discipline
  • Experience in the Nuclear/MOD sector (Preferred but not essential)
  • Experience of machinery used for general fabrication
  • Demonstrable management experience in a production environment
  • A strong approach to quality and health & safety and ensuring that standards and procedures are adhered to
  • The ability to interpret and read workshop/design drawings and direct the design of the relevant components for assembly in line with best practise manufacture
  • Sound commercial acumen and cost awareness with the ability to add value and optimise profits
  • The ability to plan ahead, organise workload, work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to motivate others
  • Results oriented with the ability to drive change and continuous improvement

Welder/Fabricator

Role Overview

The purpose of this role is to support the Team Leader with the manufacturing unit in achieving plant operational targets, product quality, customer service and health & safety objectives.

Key Accountabilities

  • Participate in team activities, utilising appropriate process, technical and engineering skills to achieve manufacturing, quality and service targets
  • Actively contributes to all team activities aimed at improving plant performance through implementation of continuous improvement , problem solving, team building and personal self-development
  • Suggest improvements to plant, process and operating procedures
  • Reacts to process, engineering, quality and safety issues as they arise and utilises the knowledge, experience and skills of own and other team members to initiate corrective action
  • Operates flexibility and safely within the team carrying out activities under direction of the team leader within area of competence, capability and training
  • Contributes to initiatives related to improving health and safety performance, taking an active part in risk assessment/hazard identification for all operational activities and taking account of appropriate COMAH regulations.
  • Read and interpret weld procedure specifications written instructions and manufacturing drawings to perform the task at hand

Instrument Technician

Overview

To provide knowledge and practical skills that ensure the safe and effective delivery of electrical manufacturing and installation including electrical maintenance activities as requested by the team leader.

Safety & Health Environment

  • Ensure and deliver safe standards of workmanship that comply with all relevant health and safety legislation
  • Ensure all aspects of electrical activities are carried out in a safe manner and comply with all the relevant health and safety legislation
  • Responsibility for the personal health, welfare and safety of those executing work
  • Produce risk assessments, safe-working procedures and deliver safety conversations; Tool Box talks that actively engage the teams/individuals performing production tasks
  • Ensure that all workshop and panel shop activities being undertaken are done so with a view to minimise any impact on the environment. e.g. Waste segregation & management

Quality

  • Undertake continuous in process inspection and testing activities with the team, applying practical methods and corrective actions to deliver high standards of workmanship at all stages of the process

Communication

  • Ensure that equipment, services and information are available for the team to effectively complete all production demands.
  • Maintain communication that ensures efficient interaction with colleagues and guidance of support services during installation and manufacturing activities

Technical

  • Read electrical drawings, assess the parts needed for a job and assist electrical engineer to place order
  • Diagnose and repair electrical problems in commercial electrical systems, including fault finding, rewiring, monitoring, conduct routine maintenance and testing on electrical systems
  • Install electrical systems to BS7671 (18th Edition) wiring regulations
  • Carry out electrical control panel manufacturing from layout and schematic drawings, wiring DC and AC electrical motors (Star and Delta), earth loop impedance testing, insulation resistance testing, polarity and continuity testing

Engineering

  • To provide materials, information and support to the design team

Production & Maintenance

  • To provide technical input into work instructions and production methodology

Stores & Logistics 

  • To issue materials and kit of parts

 

Material Sourcing Lead

Overview

The purpose of this role is to source all goods/services using MRP (Materials Replenishment Process), ad-hoc requests and a Bill of Material (BOM) for small Projects, in accordance with Business Processes and Procedures, to best possible Commercial Terms.  Negotiating annual service contracts.

Key Accountabilities 

  • Source items as necessary to ensure that all relevant items/services are available to deliver on time.  Negotiating agreements and annual service contracts for the supply of goods and services requirements at optimum costs
  • Creating new vendor accounts, reviewing data, terms and conditions and credit limits
  • Support the monitoring of supplier performance to ensure that they confirm to the conditions of contract and that they remain as viable businesses capable of meeting the company’s needs
  • Liaise with Project Engineers, Stores, and Operational personnel to gain a full understanding of their needs and brief them on improved sources of supply
  • Take ownership of purchase orders, including pro-active expediting throughout ensuring items/services delivered on time
  • Review annual contracts for specified goods and services to meet the Business cost effectively
  • Identify new and alternative sources of supply to avoid over dependence on too few suppliers and maintain market competitiveness
  • Generate Monthly OTIF (On Time In Full) data and produce KPI’s
  • Administration duties as required

Qualifications/Experience

  • Experience in a buyer role is essential (preferably in Engineering)
  • Good organisation skills, good attention to detail when reviewing and analysing material requirements and costs

Project Engineer x2

Overview

The purpose of this role is to be the main technical lead on multidiscipline projects of varying depth and scope. To plan, manage and monitor a multidiscipline team of Engineers to support project delivery. To report functionally to the Project Manager on the work being undertaken whilst remaining commercially focused.

Key Accountabilities 

  • To assess project requirements from a technical perspective
  • To deliver work in accordance with the business management systems and to plan, monitor, forecast and control various aspects of a project. In particular safety, quality, technical, schedule and resource
  • To oversee the manufacture of complex components and assemblies including any testing and commissioning activities
  • To ensure the project is undertaken safely in accordance with the legislative requirements appertaining to the project and to ensure the customer’s requirements are satisfied
  • To produce reports and documentation where required and provide technical advice within the Project
  • To produce the Bill of Materials, including identifying all technical and quality requirements to allow the procurement of both goods and services
  • To liaise with manufacturers, organise and or carry our inspection and expediting activities to satisfy the project requirements
  • To set up, control and be responsible for the safe, efficient and timely erection and commissioning of plant and equipment both within workshop assembly and at customers site. This is to include incorporation of as built modifications within the final project document packages
  • To work individually or as part of a larger project team, which may be led by either an equivalent or a Project Manager

Pipefitter x2

Overview

The applicant will be responsible for carrying out various roles in the refurbishing pipe shop division including hydraulic & lubrication systems, mainly repairing damaged pipes & testing. Other duties will be stripping out spray pipes, cleaning nozzles, re-fit to spray pipes & testing to determine the correct spray pattern can be achieved. The applicant will also carry out any maintenance tasks, to assist the smooth running of the shop floor.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Level 3 NVQ in Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering /Pipefiting and Assembly or equivalent would be preferred
  • Experience of fitting carbon, stainless and brass pipework
  • Knowledge of hydraulic & lubrication systems
  • Experience in all pipefitting activities would be desirable, troubleshooting skills
  • Organise your time and prioritise tasks efficiently
  • Effective communication skills
  • Self-motivated & have a practical approach to work

 

CNC Machinist x3

Overview

The purpose of this role is to machine items from a combination of work instructions, reading drawing information and understanding NC Programming. This will be used to aid and support the Team Leader with achieving deadlines of manufactured part, product quality and health & safety objectives.

Key Accountabilities

  • Ability to Set, Operate and check programs over a variety of CNC Horizontal and Vertical Milling machines working in heavy industry
  • Suggest improvements to plant, process and operating procedures
  • Ensure prior to performing machining activities, health and safety measures are taking into consideration and that any risks involved are considered

EC&I Design Engineer

Full time role Mon-Fri, 36.5 paid hours per week.

Overview

  • Provide support to EC&I project estimates, specifications, layouts and other tender documents in adequate detail and good order to enable project tenders and sales submissions to be made to prospective customers and project variation proposals to be made to existing customers
  • Produce the suite of EC&I design and manufacturing deliverables to process plant projects across a range of highly regulated industries to ensure functionality and safety
  • Provide design and manufacturing support to the business, department and the project team to deliver projects on time in full within the budget
  • To deliver work in accordance with business quality systems and to monitor, forecast and control their aspects of a project
  • To ensure that the design & project output can be manufactured / realised economically (value engineered) and installed, used & maintained safely in accordance with the legislative requirements appertaining to the project and to ensure the customer’s requirements are satisfied
  • To officially liaise/enquire to, and meet with prospective suppliers of goods and services, evaluation of offers, provision of purchase specifications and completion of a Bill of Materials to satisfy the technical, requirements of the project
  • To set up, control and be responsible for the safe, efficient and timely execution and commissioning of plant and equipment both within workshop and at customers site. This is to include FAT (Factory Acceptance Test), SAT (Site Acceptance Test) and incorporation of as built modifications within the final project document packages
  • To work individually or as part of a larger bid / project team, which may be led by either an equivalent, Lead Engineer, Project Engineer or Bid Manager
  • To support and undertake activities to maintain site electrical infrastructure as instructed and requested by the department manager
  • To positively undertake continuous self – development to improve the success of the whole team

Qualifications and Skills

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Experience in developing the following: Functional Design Specs, Control Philosophies, Single Line Diagrams, Cable calculations, FAT/SAT documentations, Specifications, Operation & Maintenance, Manuals/Procedures
  • Efficient in Microsoft Office with good knowledge of AutoCAD Electrical
  • Knowledge and experience of developing & troubleshooting of PLC (i.e. Siemens, Allen-Bradley), HMI, Drive programme
  • Knowledge and experience of designing and commissioning of MCC, Control panel and instrumentation
  • Knowledge of current UK Technical standards/publications and legislation requirements
